Turn a piano tutorial video into MIDI

A tutorial video plays at one speed. As MIDI, the same piece can be slowed down, looped and practised one hand at a time. Upload the video and get the notes back.

Transcribing needs an account — we’ll hold onto your file while you sign in.

Upload the video itself

Drop in the MP4 or MOV file. The sound is taken out on your device before anything is uploaded, so even a long video goes up as a few megabytes, and the picture never leaves your phone or computer.

A video saved on your phone, a screen recording, or a clip from your camera roll all work, as long as the piano can be heard clearly.

Practise it properly

Open the MIDI in Synthesia or another falling-notes app and it can wait for you to play the right note, slow down a hard bar, or show one hand at a time. Tick "Separate hands" first so each hand gets its own colour.

Getting a clean result

The transcription hears the piano, not the picture, so it does not matter how the video looks. What matters is the sound: background music, talking over the playing or a metronome click will add stray notes.

Questions

Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?

No. Upload a video or audio file instead. The site does not download from other websites.

Does it read the falling notes on screen?

No, it listens to the audio. That means it also works on videos with no notes shown, such as someone simply playing.

Can I share the MIDI?

It is yours to practise with. The piece belongs to its composer and the arrangement to the person who made the video, so publishing it can need their permission.
