Transcribe jazz piano recordings to MIDI
Most jazz piano was never written down. Upload the recording and get the notes as MIDI, so you can slow a chorus to half speed and see exactly which voicing was played.

For the solos nobody has published
There is sheet music for almost every classical piece, and very little for the recordings jazz pianists actually want to learn from. Transcribing by ear is the traditional answer and it is slow: a dense chorus can take an evening.
A MIDI transcription does not replace your ear, but it gives you the notes to check against. Rootless voicings, inner-voice movement and fast double-time lines are far easier to work out when you can see them.
Hands separated the way a jazz pianist plays
Splitting a transcription into left and right hand is where most tools fall apart on jazz, because the left hand does not stay politely at the bottom of the keyboard. It jumps from a bass note up to a chord in the middle register and back again.
The Jazz setting is built for that. It keeps a left-hand chord together after a leap, keeps rolled 10ths in the left hand, and does not hand the thumb of a right-hand octave to the other hand. Choose it under "Style of the piece" when you tick "Separate hands".
Old and noisy recordings
A lot of the best material is on worn records with a bass player and a drummer in the room. The model hears only piano, so a string bass can show up as stray low notes. In the Jazz setting, isolated quiet notes at the very top and bottom of the keyboard are filtered out.
Solo piano transcribes best. A trio recording will still give you the piano part, with more to clean up.
Questions
How accurate is it on fast bebop lines?
Single-note lines are the easiest thing for the model, even fast ones. Errors are more likely in thick two-handed chords and heavily pedalled passages.
Does it work on recordings with bass and drums?
It works, with caveats. The piano part comes through, but bass notes and cymbal noise can produce extra notes. Solo piano recordings give much cleaner results.
Can it write out chord symbols?
No. You get the notes as played. Import the MIDI into notation software if you want to add chord symbols yourself.
Is hand separation always right?
No. Which hand played a note in the middle of the keyboard is sometimes impossible to know from sound alone. It is right most of the time and wrong in places, usually where the hands play very close together.
