Turn a piano cover into sheet music

The piano cover you want to learn often has no sheet music, or only a simplified version that sounds nothing like it. Upload the recording and get back what was actually played.

The arrangement as it was played

A cover is someone’s own arrangement, with their voicings, runs and fills. Transcribing the recording gives you those notes, not a generic version of the song, along with the timing and dynamics of the performance.

Sheet music or MIDI

On a paid plan, download the transcription as sheet music: a PDF to print, or MusicXML to correct in MuseScore, Sibelius or Dorico, with each hand on its own staff. It is a strong first draft of a score; expect to tidy some rhythms.

Every plan gives you the MIDI, which plays in Synthesia and opens in any DAW or notation program.

What works best

Solo piano covers. A cover with singing over it, or the original song with a band, will not transcribe cleanly.

Questions

Will the sheet music be perfect?

No tool turns audio into a perfect score. You get a good draft with the right notes in the right hands, and some rhythms may need tidying, especially rubato passages.

Can I transcribe a cover with vocals?

It will run, but the voice will be heard as piano notes and the result will be messy. Look for an instrumental piano version.

Can I share or sell the sheet music?

It is yours to learn from. The song belongs to its writers and the arrangement to the person who recorded the cover, so publishing or selling it can need their permission.
