What this page says about Basic Pitch is from its own site in October 2026.
Built for piano
Piano is harder than most instruments: many notes at once, held by the pedal and fading as they ring. PianoToMIDI uses a model trained only on piano, made for exactly that.
What a pianist gets on top
PianoToMIDI writes down the sustain pedal, splits the notes between the left and right hand (with a style for jazz, stride and ragtime and one for classical), and plays the result back on the page as falling notes.
Your recordings, kept
Every transcription is saved to your history to play or download again, and paid plans add an editor to fix notes in the browser.
Questions
Is Basic Pitch good for piano?
It works on piano, as on any single instrument. A piano-only model usually does better on chords and pedalled passages, and adds hand separation. Try the same recording in both.
Why pay when Basic Pitch is free?
You may not need to: PianoToMIDI’s free plan transcribes 10 minutes every 30 days. The paid plans start at $9 a month for more minutes and longer recordings.
Where does the information about other tools come from?
